Martyrs' Day is celebrated on the 23rd of March every year. Martyrs' Day remembers the brave sons who sacrificed themselves for the independence of the nation, revolutionaries, and freedom fighters who opposed the British. Their martyrdom is glorified. Martyrs' Day is celebrated due to the history of enslaved India.
Actually, the British ruled India for years. But when the demand for independent India arose, the sons of India revolted against the British. There raged a storm of rebellion and the youth from almost all the homes dived into the fight for freedom. Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev also struggled against the British very fiercely. Bhagat Singh went to jail so that his voice would reach the whole country.
Revolt against the British
- In 1928, Bhagat Singh and his comrades killed the British police officer who was responsible for the death of Lala Lajpat Rai during the lathi charge.
- In 1929, Bhagat Singh, along with one of his comrades, threw a bomb at the Central Assembly and shouted slogans of Inquilab Zindabad.
- Later, he spread revolutionary statements in the court and expressed the ideology of patriotism throughout the country.
On 23 March 1931, the British government hanged Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev in Lahore jail. These three revolutionaries raised their voices against British rule and awakened the spirit of revolution throughout India with their courage.
Martyr's Day is celebrated not only in memory of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev but also in honor of all those heroes who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the country. This day inspires us to patriotism, courage, and sacrifice.
