KN Renuka Pujar created history by becoming the first transgender person appointed as a guest lecturer at a Karnataka university. Earlier this month, she was appointed as a guest lecturer in the Kannada department at the Nandihalli campus (PG Centre) of Vijayanagar Sri Krishnadevaraya University. Renuka has completed her postgraduate studies in Kannada.

Talking about her journey, she told news agency PTI, 'I am very happy. I have reached this point after a lot of struggle. The university has helped me a lot. I completed my degree in 2018 and became transgender in 2017 when I was in my second year. I completed my MA in 2022 and now I am working as a guest lecturer.'

KN Renuka hails from Kurugodu in the Ballari district. She has attributed her success to her parents and said that they helped her a lot in reaching this point. She said, 'My family comes from an agricultural background and my parents educated me to succeed in life.'

She also praised the university faculty for their support. She told the agency, 'The university faculty supported me even when I was admitted and pursuing MA.'

Talking about her ambition, she says, 'I like teaching and I want to do PhD and become a professor. I want transgenders to get an education.' According to university officials, out of 30 applicants for the post, Pujara was selected due to his impressive qualifications, good marks, and strong performance during his lectures. His appointment is being considered a milestone, as it is the first-ever appointment for the state of Karnataka.
