Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi was an initiative launched by the government in February 2019 that provides 6,000 per year to farmers as minimum income support. The initiative was announced by Piyush Goyal, Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha.

PM Narendra Modi released Rs 20,000 crore as part of the income support scheme on June 18 with CM Yogi Adityanath during the Samman Sammelan in Varanasi. This was the 17th installment, received by 9.26 crore farmers and with certificates from 30,000 self-help groups trained as krishi Sakhis.

As stated by PM, "Maa Ganga has adopted me and I have become part of Varanasi. I believe farmers, women, youth, and the poor are the pillars of 'Viksit Bharat'. He also showed gratitude to the people of Kashi for electing him as PM for the third time in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, making it the largest election in the world with the vote of over 64 crore people.

Agriculture will play a big role in making 21st century India the third largest economic power in the world, says the PM. He also appreciated the tireless efforts of the Indian government to uplift Indian farmers. The holy Land of Kashi added a feeling of pride in releasing the 17th installment with farmers brothers and sisters.
