Kashmir Preferred Location for Web-Music Series: Focus on Countryside for Shooting; Local artist in the lead role
Till now Bollywood films were fascinated by the taste of Kashmir, but now the valley has become a favourite for web and music series as well. Film production has resumed in the Valley. With this, local actors have also started getting opportunities.
Bollywood actress Zarina Wahab arrived in Kashmir for the first time in 45 years last week for her Urdu web series "Armaan" in Harwan, on the outskirts of Srinagar. Wahab said – In 1977 I spent two days in Gulmarg, this time I am here for two weeks and do not feel like going. This is the first time I've stayed here.
With the resumption of film production in the Valley, local actors have also started getting opportunities. Kashmiri artists, who are struggling due to the cancellation of regional TV shows, are now returning to the mainstream. There are many artists from the valley including Rahmat Ratan, Ayesh Arif, Jamir Asha, and Hasan Javed in 'Armaan'. Javed says- For the first time, Kashmiri actors are being cast in the lead role, this has never happened before.
Rosaleen Khan too recently felt happy while shooting for the web and music series in the valley. He said- I did not get tired during the shoot, as it happens in other places. I enjoyed shooting here without any stress. I want to come here again and again and urge other filmmakers to come here as well. She was shooting in Tangmarg.
Local actress Muskaan says – The youth here have talent, but due to lack of opportunities, they are away from employment. Hopefully, the situation will improve in the coming years as it has done in the last four years so that we can prove ourselves in Bollywood.
Earlier, most people in Kashmir were confined to Srinagar, Gulmarg and Sonmarg for holidays and the shooting of films. This left many people unemployed in rural areas. Due to better conditions in the Valley, Bollywood is now scouting locations in rural Kashmir to shoot in new locations beyond Gulmarg and Pahalgam. According to local officials, places like Bhaderwah and Kishtwar, which have been hotbeds of terrorism, are also attracting Bollywood filmmakers.
