Joe Root will return to form before World Cup 2023, sudden entry in the team for the series against IRE

In an effort to return to form before the ODI World Cup starts in India next month, England batsman Joe Root will play in the first ODI against Ireland here on Wednesday.

The 13-man squad that England had earlier selected under Jack Crowley against Ireland did not include any player from the team selected for the World Cup, but Root expressed his desire to play in the first ODI, after which he was replaced by Harry Brook. Place included in the team.

Brook was not included in the probable World Cup squad earlier but on Sunday he was included in the main squad in place of Jason Rae. England national selector Luke Wright said that Root had expressed his desire to play in the first ODI against Ireland.

Root did not perform well in the recent ODI series against New Zealand. He scored six, zero, and four runs in the first three matches, while in the fourth ODI, he played a struggling inning of 29 runs on 40 balls. After the last World Cup, he has been able to bat in only 16 ODI matches.
