One of the students of the Kota city of Rajasthan, preparing for the engineering entrance examination, committed suicide. The incident was exposed on Monday. The student preparing for the examination is from the state of Uttar Pradesh (Kanpur). He had prepared for JEE Main and Advanced for 2 years at Kota.

The Deputy Superintendent of Police (GRP-Kota), Shankar Lal, added that Ujjwal Mishra, a native of Kanpur, had to go to Lucknow, for which he was allotted a center for the purpose of appearing for the entrance examination for engineering.

His father, Deepak Kumar Mishra, had come here on Monday to take Ujjwal and his belongings back to UP, the police said. Ujjwal was a JEE preparatory student at a coaching institute here and was staying at a hostel in Rajiv Gandhi Nagar.

The DSP said the student left his hostel room around 6.30 pm on Sunday and reached Kota railway station. According to the train pilot, when the boy saw the train approaching, he lay down on the tracks. The pilot immediately informed the Government Railway Police about the incident.

No suicide note was recovered from the boy. Ujjwal was an average student. The bereaved father outside the mortuary after receiving his son's body said he was never told that he was in trouble nor did he show any kind of distress.

The DSP said that on Sunday evening, Ujjwal spoke to his classmate who lives in the hostel opposite his and told him that he was not well prepared to pass the April 2 exam. Agricultural scientist Ujjwal's father said that his son was taking coaching for JEE-Mains and Advanced at a coaching institute in Kota for the last two years.

The engineering aspirant's mother and younger brother live in Lucknow. The body was handed over to the father after the post-mortem on Monday afternoon, police said. Also, a case has been registered in this matter.

This is the tenth student suicide this year in the city, famous as a coaching hub. In January itself, six coaching students, five JEE and one NEET, committed suicide. In 2024, 17 coaching students committed suicide in Kota. In 2023, this number was 26.
