Jaya did not want Amitabh to host Kaun Banega Crorepati

The reality shows Kaun Banega Crorepati is an important part of Amitabh Bachchan's career. When he decided to host the show in 2000, he was one of the first actors to try his hand at the small screen. Big B's close family members were against his decision. Even his wife Jaya did not want Amitabh to host any TV show.
In an interview given to Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla in 2008, when Jaya was asked about Amitabh's television career and his success in KBC, Jaya said- Can you imagine that I never wanted to Amitabh do this?
Explaining the reason, Jaya had said- 'I used to feel that it was not right somewhere to limit her to the small screen.'
In 2021, Amitabh completed 1000 episodes of KBC. On this occasion, he told how he had said yes to Kaun Banega Crorepati due to compulsion.
Being emotional, Amitabh said – it has been 21 years. The show started in the year 2000. At that time we did not know what would happen next.
Everyone was saying that you are going from film to television, from big screen to small screen. Your image will be damaged. But at that time our own circumstances were such that I was not getting work in films, due to which this decision had to be taken. The kind of reactions started coming after the first broadcast, then it seemed that the whole world had come together.
KBC producer Siddharth Basu had said in an interview with Indian Express – Amitabh was going through a very bad phase of his career at that time. He had incurred a huge loss in his business venture ABCL. Before signing on to the show, Amitabh Bachchan went to watch Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. As soon as he saw the show, he agreed to sign KBC. For this, he put a condition that we will completely follow the terms and rules of the game.
