Five years after the controversial abrogation of Article 370, the people of Jammu and Kashmir will once again have their elected representatives. The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the schedule for the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections on August 16. Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar announced the schedule for the Assembly elections at a press conference.

The elections will be held in the Union Territory in three phases starting September 18. Vote counting will be completed on October 4.

There are a total of 8,709,000 eligible voters in Jammu and Kashmir, including 4,446,000 men, 4,262,000 women, 371,000 first-time voters and 207,000 youth voters. The final voters list will be released on August 20.

Polling for the 90 seats in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly will be held in three phases.

Phase 1 - 27 August 2024

Phase 2 - 5 September 2024

Phase 3 - 12 September 2024

Phase 1 - 08/ 2024/08

Phase 2 - 6 September 2024

Phase 3 - 13 September 2024

Nomination withdrawal:

Phase 1 - 30 August 2024 Phase 1 – September 18, 2024

Phase 2 – September 25, 2024

Phase 3 – October 1, 2024

Result counting date: April 10, 2024

The ECI announced the election dates after the Supreme Court of India set a deadline for poll bodies to hold general elections by September.
