Jaipur News: Enforcing strict laws on old car markets, seizing over 100 automobiles, and earning millions of rupees
Jaipur News: Strict enforcement action has started on old car markets. More than 100 vehicles have been seized and revenue of lakhs of rupees has been obtained.

The Transport Department conducted a large-scale enforcement campaign on old car markets in the capital Jaipur. The campaign was carried out under the direction of Shuchi Tyagi, Secretary and Commissioner of Transport and Road Safety Department. Teams of RTO Jaipur (II) took action by seizing over 100 vehicles and strict action was taken on seven car markets.
During this action, many vehicles were found which were registered in other states and whose tax was not paid in Rajasthan. Revenue of Rs 10 to 20 lakh is expected to be obtained as tax from these vehicles.
Rule No. 55A was notified on 22 December 2022 through GSR901E to make registration of old car markets mandatory. However, after this, no car market was registered till March 2024. In March 2024, on the instructions of the government and the transport department, RTO Jaipur (II) started an enforcement campaign. During this, several car markets were raided and more than 300 vehicles were seized. As a result of this action, 37 car markets were registered in RTO Jaipur (II).
This was the first time that the process of registration of old car markets started across India including Rajasthan. Currently, about 147 car markets have been registered in Rajasthan, out of which 37 registrations have taken place in the area of RTO Jaipur (II). District Transport Officer Sanjay Sharma said that this enforcement campaign is necessary not only to ensure road safety but also to prevent tax evasion and get revenue to the government. He also informed that this campaign will continue regularly till all the old car markets are registered under the Motor Vehicles Act and Rules.
