Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar expressed the state's inability to release water to neighboring Tamil Nadu as directed by the CWRC. He said that there is not enough water in its Cauvery basin.
It is known that his statement came after the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC) on Monday recommended Karnataka to release 2,600 cusecs of water per day to Tamil Nadu for 15 days from November 1. Shivakumar, who holds the water resources portfolio, said the water flow in the Krishnaraja Sagar dam is inadequate to release water to the neighboring state.
"The flow in the KRS dam is zero. We do not have the capacity to release water," the Deputy Chief Minister told the media. He said 815 cusecs of water naturally flow towards Tamil Nadu from the KRS and Kabini dams. Only 51 TMC water is left in the Cauvery basin. At present, stored water is required to meet the drinking water requirement." Tamil Nadu had demanded 13,000 cusecs of water every day.
