Indian boxing icon and Olympic medallist Mary Kom made a special appearance at the SAI National Boxing Academy, Rohtak, where she witnessed the semi-final action of the REC Combined National Talent Hunt Programme. The event was participated in with great enthusiasm by the young talent in order to find and groom future boxing champions of the country. Mary Kom, the winner of six World Championships, gave some important tips and words to all the participants present there to boost their morale.

The aim of the REC National Talent Hunt Programme is to broaden the base of the sport beyond traditional pockets. It focuses on the identification and development of emerging talent with potential to bring glory to the nation. Elite and Youth men and women winners from various talent hunts across the country competed in this event, held from October 6-13.
The winners will be inducted into the National camp, a new initiative by the Boxing Federation of India (BFI), which has received an overwhelming response from boxing enthusiasts nationwide.

In this prestigious competition, Ipsita Vikram, aged 21, shone brightly in the 81+ weight category. Fully guided by her coach Manoj Kadian, Ipsita put up a great skill and determination to win the bronze medal. A feather in her cap that shows her hard work and dedication, it thus marks her as one of the rising stars of Indian boxing.

With the conclusion of categories in Elite and Youth, the action will now be shifted to the Junior and Sub-junior from October 15-22, respectively, competing with participants in 13 and 14 weight categories. This feat by Ipsita Vikram will motivate the young boxing stars looking for inspiration from her in this highly competitive tournament.
