During a major operation at Bengaluru's Foreign Post Office, the Central Crime Branch (CCB) Narcotics Control Unit seized a large quantity of drugs worth Rs 21.17 crore. The unit, working with customs authorities, found 606 shipments containing prohibited drugs.

The drugs seemed to be imported from countries including the United States, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Thailand, and the Netherlands. They were caught after a dog squad examined over 3,500 suspicious packages.

The seized drugs included hydro ganja, LSD, MDMA crystals and ecstasy tablets, heroin, cocaine, amphetamine, charas, and ganja oil. The investigation also pointed out that the accused imported these substances through the Indian Postal Service, selling them at inflated prices in Bengaluru. According to the police, smuggling was done as part of a huge operation to earn illegal money by targeting well-known customers in the city.

The CCB Narcotics Unit had, earlier this year, registered 12 cases relating to drug trafficking and arrested many persons for similar activities.

In September, three people were arrested in connection with two cases registered at the HSR Layout police station and one case at the CCB station. These cases and raids on post offices are part of a major crackdown on trade in drugs in Bengaluru.

The joint operation underlines the unending effort of the Narcotics Control Unit, CCB, against drug trafficking in the region. Investigations continue, and more arrests may be made as officers continue to unravel the network of individuals involved in the importation and distribution of banned narcotics.
