Instagram is releasing a new feature called Trial Reels. With the help of Trial Reels, creators can experiment with new types of content. The feature was first announced in May this year but was still being tested. Now it is being released.

In an official blog post, Instagram announced, "Trial Reels will start giving creators an opportunity to try out other content outside the niche or special topic". In other words, creating new genres of content, formats of storytelling, or new topics to see how that works out with their audiences. The Trial Reels will show only to non-followers in the main feed and Reels section.

Key performance insights in respect of the trial reel shall include views, likes, comments, and shares and shall be provided to the creator within 24 hours. If the trial reel performs well, creators can choose to share it with their followers as well.

To create a trial reel, you follow through with the same steps that you would for a normal reel. Enable the trial toggle. Right before posting the reel, there will be a trial toggle from beneath the caption text box, click on it to open. Once shared, it can be viewed near Drafts in the profile.

The Trial reels will not show on creators' profiles and therefore are not public. They might see them if the creator shared the reel with them directly. The reel also could be showcased on the page of reels using the same audio, filter, or location. Instagram also automatically may share this if the reel does well within the first 72 hours, although the option is entirely changeable for creators.
