The country's largest airline Indigo has placed an order for 500 new Airbus Neo family planes at the Paris air show. These aircraft will be delivered between 2030 and 2035. Indigo has achieved a new record with this deal. The deal, valued at approximately $50 billion, has become the largest single purchase agreement in history.
Giving information about this deal, a top company official said that this 500 aircraft order is not only IndiGo's largest order but also the largest single aircraft purchase by any airline along with Airbus.
The engines for this order will be selected in due course and hence will be an exact mix of A320 and A321 aircraft, IndiGo said in a statement. According to the company, the valuation of the offer has been shared and discussed with IndiGo's board.
IndiGo also said that with this additional firm order of 500 aircraft for 2030-2035, IndiGo's order book has about 1,000 aircraft that are yet to be delivered well into the next decade. IndiGo's order book includes A320NEO, A321NEO, and A321XLR aircraft.
"The latest agreement also takes the total number of Airbus aircraft ordered by IndiGo to 1,330, establishing its position as the world's largest A320 Family customer," Airbus said in a statement.
Peter Albers, CEO of IndiGo, said that this order strongly reaffirms IndiGo's belief in India's growth, the A320 Family, and our strategic partnership with Airbus.
Commenting on the historic deal, Airbus Chief Commercial Officer and Head of International, Christian Scheer said, “This historic order marks a new chapter in the relationship between Airbus and IndiGo, which is the world's fastest-growing airline offering millions of people affordable air travel.
