The full form of IATA is International Air Transport Association. It is the largest airline organization in the world. There are about 300 airlines in this, whose share in the world's air traffic is 83 percent.
According to IATA's website, the organization supports aviation activities and helps in policy-making on critical aviation issues.
IATA was established on April 19, 1945, in Havana, Cuba. At its inception, IATA had 57 members from 31 countries, mostly from Europe and North America. Today, 300 members from 120 countries are part of this group.
Tata Sons-owned Air India has been elected to the Board of Governors at the IATA AGM held in Istanbul last week. Air India joining the board after a gap of several years is considered a major achievement for the Indian aviation industry.
With the joining of Air India, the Indian side in IATA will be stronger. It already had Indigo as its Indian representative. With this, the board of IATA will get suggestions according to the Indian perspective.
Currently, the Indian market is one of the fastest-growing aviation markets in the world. The Indian aviation market will benefit from increased Indian representation in IATA.
