Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said on Tuesday (June 27) that India's road network has grown by 59% in the last 9 years. India has also become the second largest country in the world in terms of road network.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari informed that India's road network has now increased to 1,45,240 km, which was 91,287 km in 2013-14. Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said these things while addressing a conference on 'Achievements of 9 years of the government' in Delhi.
Nitin Gadkari said that in the last 9 years, India has created 7 world records in the road sector. He said, 'Today India's road network has reached the second number in the world after America. The minister further informed that the revenue from tolls has now increased to Rs 41,342 crore, which was Rs 4,770 crore in 2013-14.
Gadkari said, 'The government's target is to increase toll revenue to Rs 1.3 lakh crore by 2030. The use of FASTag has helped in reducing the waiting time at toll plazas by 47 seconds. He told that the government is taking several measures to reduce it to less than 30 seconds.
