US-India SIG716 Deal: India has signed a big deal with ammunition and pistol manufacturer American company SIG SAUER. This company will supply an additional 73,000 SIG716 rifles to the Ministry of Defense of India. This is India's second contract with this company. SIG716 is an AR platform made in 7.62 NATO.
American ammunition and pistol manufacturing company SIG SAUER has signed a big-ticket deal with India. SIG SAUER announced a second purchase contract with the Ministry of Defense to supply an additional 73,000 SIG716 rifles. The company statement says that after completing the deal, 145,400 such rifles would be in service with the Indian Army.
Thus seems quite content with the deal with India Sig Sauer's President and CEO Ron Cohen: 'We are proud to be a partner in the Indian Army's modernization effort, and even more proud that the Sig 716 rifle achieves the Ministry of Defense's modernization goals with the world's second-largest army.'
In 2019, the Ministry of Defence placed an order for 72,400 rifles of Sig 716 with Sig Sauer. "Due to successful 'fielding and overwhelming' acceptance by the soldiers, we received this follow-up award for additional rifles," the company said in a statement.
The company further said 'Since the initial fielding of SIG716, we have received phenomenal end-user feedback on the performance and reliability of the platform. During this time, we have strengthened and solidified our partnership with the Indian Ministry of Defense and feel honored to earn their continued trust by equipping their frontline infantrymen.'
The SIG716 is an AR platform, chambered in 7.62 NATO. It has a 16-inch barrel, M-LOIC handguard, and a 6-position telescoping stock. SIG SAUER designs and manufactures the SIG716 rifles for the Indian Army and all its customers in the US.
