The International Day of UN Peacekeepers was organized by UN Peacekeepers Veterans Association- AISP SPIA in United Nations Geneva Office on 31 May which is officially observed annually on May 29th. It is a day dedicated to honoring the contributions and sacrifices of United Nations (UN) peacekeepers in maintaining peace and security around the world. The day also serves as a tribute to those who have lost their lives in the line of duty. This year being 75th anniversary theme “Peace begins with me” recognized the service and sacrifice of peacekeepers, past and present, including more than 4200 who have given their lives under the UN flag. It also pays tribute to the resilience of the communities that serve and continue to strive for peace despite many obstacles.

This event was attended by UNOG Director General H.E.Tatiana Valovaya as a Chief Guest and Ambassador of Bangladesh H.E. Mohammad Sufiur Rahman as a Guest of Honor.
Around more than 200 delegates from Europe & Asia attended this event who belonged to various backgrounds such as Government Officials, Diplomats, UN Peacekeeping Veterans & Young Peacemakers.

Around thirteen Indian Young Peacemakers belonging to Ashoka Group of Schools, Nashik, India participated in this event under the mentorship of Dr.Dinesh Sabnis who has honorary appointment in United Nations as Addl. Representative for WFDP and also hold position of Hon.Secretary General in UN Peacekeepers Veteran Association- AISP SPIA (Soldiers for Peace International Association), both this organizations are on consultative status in UN ECOSOC.

Indian Young Peacemakers presented papers on SDG-1, SDG-4 & SDG-16 wherein they tried to inform international community about Global Peace through sustainable planning in poverty elimination and quality education, and how it can impact peace process in global world. Indian Delegation consistently shared through their presentations about the importance of peace through Mahatma Gandhi philosophy and also how economical development and sustainable planning plays vital role in sustaining Peace. They also mentioned that conflicts should be solved always only through peace discussions as war can never be the solution. In this event young peacemaker’s delegations from Ukraine and France also participated and shared their views on the various topics to sustain peace in global world.

On this day even UN Veterans were honored with Peace Commemorative Medal for their commendable role and services in the peace process by Hon.President of AISP SPIA Mr. Laurent Attar-Bayrou. Overall The International Day of UN Peacekeepers 2023 was very memorable and commendable event to be watched and celebrated in United Nations Geneva Office.
