India today has become the hub for startups, with 328k startups, of which 114 have become unicorns. In today's world, where most of the youth are choosing to be job givers instead of job seekers, a drastic paradigm shift is seen in the startup ecosystem.

As per the report shared by IIT Madras, the ratio of unicorn engineer founders is more as compared to others. Two years back, 85% of the founders were engineers, each valued at $1 billion. The shift in the count of unicorn startups in India varies from 100 in 2022 to 114 in 2024.

Non-engineers occupy 9% of this group, and women constitute only 7.2%. "Today, there is more diversity among startup founders as compared to a decade ago, says Rajesh Sawhney, founder of GSF Accelerator. Among these engineers, 60% are from IITs, 7% from Delhi Technology University, and another 6% from the Birla Institute of Technology.

Entrepreneurship once reminded us of risk-taking, but today it reminds us of unicorns and the thriving startup ecosystem where each city is coming up with a unicorn startup. Startups are now focusing on real-life problems in each sector, making India the most developed country.
