All countries have to announce their respective 15-member teams by May 1. In such a situation, the Indian selectors are likely to meet in Mumbai this weekend. This information has been given by the sources of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
BCCI's Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee is facing the challenge of choosing a balanced 15-member squad based on the performance of the players in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. Sources said, “The selectors will sit on April 27 or 28 to choose the 15-member squad. It will be really difficult to name the team as some of the young players in the current IPL are impressive.
The T20 World Cup 2024 will feature 20 teams in total. Each of the four groups of five teams has been formed from all of the teams. Throughout the 29-day tournament, 55 matches will be played. This many matches will be played in the T20 World Cup for the first time. From June 1 to June 18, there will be 40 group-stage matches. Each group's teams will participate in one match. Each group's top two teams advance to the next round.
Twelve Super-8 matches are scheduled for June 19–24. Each group's top two teams will play in this match. Each of the eight teams will participate in one match. From here the top four teams will reach the knockout stage. The first semi-final will be played in Guyana on June 26 and the second semi-final in Trinidad on June 27. After this, the final match will be played between the winners of both the semi-finals in Barbados on 29 June.
In this World Cup also, India and Pakistan have been placed in the same group. Apart from India and Pakistan, Canada and America are also in Group A. The group stage match between India and Pakistan will be played on June 9 in New York. This blockbuster match will be played at the New Nassau County International Cricket Stadium.
