Indian PM starts his first bilateral visit to Brunei

PM Modi is on a visit to Brunei and Singapore from today as his bilateral visit. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal says, PM Modi will visit Brunei on September 3 and 4. This will be the first bilateral visit of an Indian Prime Minister to Brunei. The visit takes place to celebrate the occasion of the completion of 40 years of the diplomatic relations between India and Brunei. Modi will travel to Singapore after his visit in Brunei. The PM of Singapore has invited Indian PM for the same.

PM Modi syas I am looking forward to the opportunity to meet President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong and retired Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong. He will also meet the leaders of the business community of Singapore. He said that I look forward to discussions to further deepen our strategic partnership with Singapore, especially in new and emerging areas of advanced manufacturing, digitalization and sustainable development. Singapore is India's largest trading partner in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations ASEAN. It is also a major source of foreign direct investment.

Important partners in the 'Act East' policy, vision for the Indo-Pacific

Prime Minister Modi described Brunei and Singapore as important partners in India's 'Act East' policy and its vision for the Indo-Pacific. He says that his visit will further strengthen Indian partnership with the two countries as well as the larger ASEAN region. Prime Minister Modi said this in a statement on Tuesday before leaving for a visit to Brunei and Singapore.

Prime Minister Modi says on his visit, "I am going on my first bilateral visit to Brunei Darussalam. As we celebrate 40 years of our diplomatic relations, I will hold a series of meetings with Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah and other esteemed members of the royal family to take our historic ties to new heights. From Brunei, I will travel to Singapore on September 4. There I will meet the President, the Prime Minister and other esteemed colleagues. I will also meet leaders of Singapore's vibrant business community."

Three-day official visit 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi left for a three-day official visit to Brunei Darussalam and Singapore. Prime Minister Modi is visiting Brunei Darussalam at the invitation of Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah. Prime Minister Modi's visit to Brunei will be the first bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister. He will then visit Singapore at the invitation of Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong. The visit is scheduled between September 4-5.
