Indian government websites are the target of hackers, cyber-attacks increased by 50 percent
Cyber security is a big problem not only for India but for countries all over the world. Every government makes continuous efforts to deal with this. At present, it has been learned in a survey that more than 60 percent of the institutions in India have seen an increase of more than 50% in cyber attacks. The officers of the Indian IT industry took part in this survey.
Cyber attacks are increasing with the development of the internet. Especially due to the popularity of AI, cybercrime has also been promoted. The Palo Alto Networks survey revealed that 67% of India's government and essential service organizations faced a more than 50% increase in cyber attacks in 2022-2023.
Along with this, it was found in the survey that the country's essential infrastructure, public places, and special services are at great risk of such attacks. The survey also reports that the government experienced the highest number of cyber-attacks despite a 75% increase in India's cyber security budget allocation for 2023 as compared to last year.
India and SAARC, Palo Alto Networks, India's Managing Director Anil Valluri said India saw a 75% increase in its cyber security budget allocation for 2023 compared to last year, which is the largest increase in the APAC region.
The cyber security company said it surveyed 200 Indian IT and C-Suite executives, and senior directors, to understand the state of cyber security in India. All these people belonged to sectors like banking and finance-related services, telecom/tech/communication, retail/, transport and logistics and infrastructure.
These sectors are affected:
- The survey revealed that 66% of manufacturing firms in India faced an increased risk from unsecured IoT devices connected to the network, which is much higher than in other regions. Additionally, 83% of threats are related to transportation and logistics organizations.
- However, 95% of businesses in India believe they are actively moving towards automated security stacks and 48% of public, transportation, and logistics organizations as well as 50% of manufacturing firms believe that 5G adoption will increase security vulnerabilities.
- 34% of people associated with banking and financial services in the country say that cloud attacks will disrupt business. Additionally, 69% of telcos faced new risks from increased reliance on cloud-based services and apps.
The report also found that cyber attacks on 45% of Indian businesses have increased by more than 50%, the highest in APAC. Additionally, about 35% of Indian companies are more concerned about social engineering attacks than the APAC average.
