India won the silver medal in the team event, Maruhaba Cup, at the Asian Surfing Championship 2024 held in Thulusdhoo, Maldives. In the final match played on Sunday, Japan won the gold medal with a big margin of 58.40 from India. India recorded a score of 24.13.

Meanwhile, Chinese Taipei garnered 23.93 to take third place, and China placed fourth with 22.10.
The Indian team of Kamali P, Ajeesh Ali, Srikanth D, and Sanjay Selvamani had a score of 32.16 so far and finished in the first position in the Heat 2 semi-finals. Chinese Taipei team managed to finish in the second position with a team score of 29.70, while South Korea managed to finish in the third position with a score of 27.74 in the semi-finals of the event.
India won a silver medal on Saturday, a day after Harish Muthu had secured its first-ever quota into surfing for the Asian Games. The Men and Women from India will now take part in the Asian Games 2026 to be held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. Harish Muthu did a good job at the Asian Surfing Championship. He happened to be the first Indian ever to make it to the quarterfinal last to stand proclaimed second best in a tough completion.
