India will make USB Type C port mandatory for charging gadgets, new rules may be implemented soon

Like the European Union, India may also soon bring rules to make USB Type C a standard charging port in tech gadgets like smartphones, tablets, and laptops. Talks are currently going on about this and an official announcement may be made in the coming days. However, the rule with the standard charging port in Europe is to be implemented from 2025. This rule has been brought to control e-waste.

According to the report of LiveMint, the Union IT Ministry may soon announce the standard charger rule in the coming weeks regarding smartphones, tablets, and laptops. The government may soon make USB Type C ports mandatory in companies' tech gadgets from June 2025. Along with this, the report claims that feature phones, basic phones, audio, and wearables can be kept out of this rule.

According to Jagran, the government would allow companies plenty of time to execute the new laws. It is probable that firms will be granted until the end of the year 2026 to make the rules to be imposed in June 2025 mandatory.

The government's goal in implementing these measures is to control e-waste. Along with this, customers will be able to charge numerous devices using the same connection.

The European Union has already established the Universal Charging Port rule for electronic devices such as cell phones, tablets, cameras, video game consoles, speakers, and laptop computers. India is also planning to implement a similar rule. The Union Information Technology Ministry has not yet given any official information.
