India ranked 63rd in Energy Transition Index, World Economic Forum released the full list

The World Economic Forum has announced the list of nations featured in the Energy Transition Index. India is rated 63rd in this list. India received this ranking after considerable improvements in energy equity, security, and sustainability.

The European countries dominated this ranking. Sweden leads, followed by Denmark, Finland, Switzerland, and France in the top five. China has been placed 20th.

The improvement shown by India and some other developing countries like China and Brazil is significant. Noting various initiatives taken in India, the WEF said the country is a pioneer in producing results that can be replicated elsewhere.

Further, the WEF said governments could also consider creating awareness and policy interventions, for example, guidelines for energy-efficient built infrastructure and incentives for retrofitting, to create an enabling environment for rapid adoption.

The WEF said, "The developing world has an opportunity to rewrite the rules and lead the way in successfully changing energy demand. One example of reverse innovation is scalable innovation that starts in developed countries and is then spread around the world." On the role of China and India, the WEF said both these countries, with nearly a third of the global population, will play a key role.

According to the report, globally, the energy transition to a more equitable, secure, and sustainable energy system is still in progress, but its pace has slowed due to growing uncertainty around the world.

The WEF also noted India's focus on leveraging energy for income generation and supporting micro-enterprises through the productive use of renewable energy sources.
