Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) will prove to be a big game changer like the Silk Route. An agreement was reached for IMEC during the G20 summit hosted by India last year.

In an interview, PM Modi said about IMEC, 'The Gulf countries have played a positive role. America and Europe have also supported India on this. Pictures of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, PM Narendra Modi, and US President Joe Biden shaking hands at the G20 made headlines globally. He said, that when we work for global good, there is no if and but. You can take the world with you and this was my attempt. You tell me how the G8 and G20 were born. We should never deviate from the issues for which they have been formed. I assured everyone. I needed to talk to some people privately. I did that. Secondly, I intended that I would not bring the proposal in the last session. I would do it so early that people would be surprised. So I completed the work of the announcement of the second day on the first day itself. This was my strategy and that strategy worked.'

When asked if Biden and Mohammed bin Salman should shake hands, Prime Minister Modi responded that he is friends with both of them. We have been working on IMEC, he said, and it will revolutionize the game much like the Silk Road did. The Gulf nations played an encouraging and proactive role. India was able to take on a constructive role. We had America and Europe with us. Everyone was expecting a strong and favorable outcome. We used to get together on that, so. "There was an opportunity to bring President Biden and the Saudi King together, and I have a good friendship with both of them," the PM continued.

A Memorandum of Understanding for IMEC was signed by India, the US, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Germany, Italy, Saudi Arabia, France, and the European Union during the G20 summit held in New Delhi in September last year.
