After America, India is the second biggest target in the world in terms of cyber attacks. Last year i.e. in 2024, 95 units of India had to face data theft. This shocking information has come to light in the latest report of cyber intelligence company CloudSEK.

The company's Threatlandscape Report 2024, based on data of monitoring the dark web, states that due to the strength of the economic and digital infrastructure, America became the first target of cyber attacks last year. During this period, 140 attacks were carried out on it. India became the second largest target with 95 attacks and Israel, which is engaged in geopolitical conflicts, became the third largest target with 57 attacks.

According to the report, many sectors of India were targeted in these attacks. Of these, the finance and banking sectors proved to be the biggest victims with 20 attacks. While 13 attacks were made in the government sector, 12 in telecom, 10 in healthcare and pharma, and nine in the education sector.

In the biggest data theft incident, information of 85 crore Indian citizens was stolen through the customer data of Hi-Tech Group, Star Health, and Allied Insurance. While in second place, two TB data from Telecommunications Consultants India was stolen.

During this period, the country recorded 108 ransomware incidents. According to the report, Lockabit was the most active ransomware group in India. It accounted for more than 20 incidents. It is followed by Killsec with 15 cases. Ransomhub was responsible for 12 incidents in the country.

Cases of cyber fraud are continuously on a rise. In the past year, complaints of cyber fraud received were 1264. Money fraud cases came out to be 1032. Fraud of more than five lakh rupees, 129 cases were there which were registered in the cyber crime police station. Cyber fraudsters took away the money of the people, making a total collection of 30 crore rupees.

It exposes 19 cyber fraud gangs of various districts of Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh and arrested 80 cyber fraudsters. In addition, five crore eighty lakh rupees were returned to the affected citizens in cases filed at the Cyber Crime Police Station. The Police blocked 5,531 Mobile numbers used for committing fraud, 81 counterfeit Accounts of internet media have been deleted/closed.
