Hungary, the official host of the 45th edition of the Chess Olympiad, received the torch from Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur on Wednesday at the Major Dhyan Chand Stadium. In 2022, India took the lead in hosting the Chess Olympiad across 75 cities nationwide when it did so in Chennai. Sanjay Kapoor, the president of the Indian Chess Federation, and five-time world champion Vishwanathan Anand were also present on this occasion.

On this occasion, the Sports Minister along with Vishwanathan Anand also played a friendly chess game against Dwarkovic and Judith Polgar. On this occasion, the Sports Minister said that he was happy that the decision he had taken to take out the torch of the Chess Olympiad was completed with the torch handoff ceremony. He said that chess is an intellectual heritage that perhaps India has given to the world. This is not just a game but a reflection of strategic depth and philosophical knowledge.

More than two and a half thousand players participated in the 44th Chess Olympiad held in Chennai. The next Chess Olympiad is being organized by FIDE in Budapest (Hungary). Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the first Chess Olympiad torch on June 19, 2022. Indian Chess Federation President Sanjay Kapoor said that hosting the Chess Olympiad is like a dream come true. The host team's performance in this Olympiad marked the beginning of a golden era in Indian chess. In this Olympiad, the Indian women's team won a total of nine medals including the bronze medal.
