India crowned Junior Asia Hockey Champion for the fourth time: beat Pakistan 2-1 in the final; Angad and Hundal scored goals
The Indian hockey team once again became the Junior Asia Cup champions. The Indian team defeated Pakistan 2-1 in the final played in Salalah, Oman. India has won this title for the fourth time. With this, the Indian team became the most successful team in the tournament.
It was the ninth season of the Junior Asia Cup. The Indian team was playing in the final of the tournament for the sixth time. In the title match, India played aggressively from the beginning. India got a penalty corner in the very first minute, however, the team could not score.
Angad Bir Singh scored a goal in the 13th minute of the match to put India ahead 1-0. India did not allow a goal to be scored on a penalty corner awarded to Pakistan in the 15th minute. Arijit Singh Hundal doubled the lead in the 20th minute of the match. After this, there was no goal in the first half.
Pakistan's Basharat Ali scored a goal in the 38th minute of the match to reduce the lead. After that both the teams could not score and the match ended 2-1 in favor of India. India scored a total of 50 goals in the tournament and finished as the top scorer.
Hockey India Executive Board announced a cash prize of 2 lahks for the players and 1 lakh for the support staff. Congratulating the team, Hockey India President Padma Shri Dilip Tirkey said, "The Indian junior men's team has done us all extremely proud with their unbeaten performance in the Junior Asia Cup. May their dominance continue with a historic win at the Sultan of Johor Cup." And I am sure this big win will hold them in good stead for the Junior World Cup later this year."
