India Asks Google To Ban Online Betting Ads

India has asked Google to block ads from foreign companies promoting online betting. According to a source associated with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the letter issued to Google has asked to stop the advertisements of online gambling companies Fairplay, Parimatch, Betway, and YouTube directly or indirectly. Alphabet Inc's letter to Google India last week asked the company to immediately remove all direct or indirect advertising from search results such as Fairplay, Parimatch, and Betway, and betting platforms such as YouTube.

The report was filed on December 4 by the agency citing government documents and three sources. A senior official of the ministry said, "After the advisory issued on December 3, TV channels and OTT platforms have banned direct and indirect advertisements of online gambling but it has been brought to our notice that YouTube and Google are airing such advertisements.".
