IND vs NZ: Bengaluru Test falls prey to rain, first day's play canceled without toss

The first match of the three-match Test series is being played at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru between India and New Zealand. This match's first day of play has been called off without a toss. The umpires cancelled the game because the pitch could not dry out quickly enough because of the pits on the field, even though the rain stopped for a while in between.

There is a risk of heavy rain for several days today, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), which has issued an orange signal in Bengaluru. It will take time to determine whether or not this match will occur in such a circumstance. Meanwhile, the Karnataka government has also declared a holiday in schools on Wednesday due to the orange alert, while many tech companies have advised their employees to work from home.

An update from the BCCI stated that 98 overs will be bowled on the second day of the Test on Thursday. Toss will be at 9:45, while the first ball will be bowled at 9:15. The pitch is continuously under covers.

In such a situation, moisture can be expected in the pitch here, due to which the teams also have the option of fielding an extra pacer. Rohit Sharma has said before the match that the option of three spinners and three pacers is open. At present, he is hoping that he gets to play the entire match. Worth mentioning here, the Indian team is playing this series in the absence of Mohammad Shami, yet to complete his rehabilitation process. The three-match Test series is important keeping in mind the World Test Championship. The playing Indian side will be a contender for the victory in the series, but in the overcast conditions of Bengaluru, the Kiwi team will have a good chance to counterattack.
