Tomato prices are expected to soften in the coming days due to the increased supply of tomatoes from the southern states - Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. An official of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs gave this information on Saturday. According to him, if the supply chain is not disrupted due to heavy rains, it may decrease in the coming weeks.

The retail price of tomatoes in the national capital has currently reached Rs 75 per kg. According to the data of the Consumer Ministry, the retail price of tomato in Delhi on July 12 was Rs 75 per kg, whereas in the same period a year ago the price was Rs 150 per kg. The official said that the prices of tomatoes and onions, which have increased due to supply disruptions, are expected to stabilize soon.

The prices of tomatoes, potatoes, and onions are very high in Delhi and some other cities. The supply was disrupted due to the scorching heat and subsequent heavy rains, which led to a surge in retail prices. The all-India average retail price of tomatoes was Rs 65.21 per kg on July 12, while last year it was Rs 53.36 per kg. At present, Delhi is getting tomato supply from Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The retail price of potatoes in Delhi is Rs 40 per kg, which was Rs 25 per kg during this period last year. At the same time, the price of onion is Rs 57 per kg, which was Rs 33 per kg last year.
