Increase in ESIC members, more than 10 lakh members joined in August

The Ministry of Labor and Employment said in a statement yesterday that 19.42 lakh new employees joined the Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) in August this year. Let us tell you that on Friday, the Ministry of Labor and Employment released the provision of payroll data. According to this data, about 24,849 new establishments have been registered in the month of August 2023.

All these establishments provide coverage to employees under the social security of the Employees' State Insurance Corporation. This is a type of medical insurance.

Provisional payroll data data showed that more jobs have been created for the youth of the country. Out of the total 19.42 lakh employees added during the month of August, 47.48 percent i.e. 9.22 lakh employees up to the age group of 25 years have been registered. Whereas gender-wise, 3.73 lakh women have been enrolled in August 2023.

Apart from this, a total of 75 transgender employees have also registered under the ESI scheme. This shows that ESIC is committed to extending its benefits to every section of the society. Payroll data is provisional because it is an exercise in data creation.

ESIC is a government scheme. In this, the employee is given the benefit of medical insurance. In this scheme, the company provides medical care facilities to its employees and their families. In this, a certain portion of the employee's salary is given to ESIC. This scheme is operated by the Employees State Insurance Corporate.

All sections of the society are included in this scheme. From January 1, 2017, only those employees whose salary is Rs 21,000 per month are included in this scheme.
