In the Chinese army, only machines are hi-tech, not soldiers

China's 'People's Liberation Army' (PLA), one of the world's largest armies, is facing a severe shortage of trained and skilled soldiers. The situation is that the PLA has modern military equipment and machines but does not have trained soldiers to operate them. This information has been given in the PLA Daily, the official newspaper of the Chinese Army. Based on this information, 'The South China Morning Post' has issued a report. We are sharing with you some important points of that report.
Over the years, the Chinese Navy has retired many old ships and added new modern ships to the navy. But they have very few people who know how to run these ships. In such a situation, the Chinese Army is not able to use the full potential of these hi-tech ships and machines.
Many PLA commanders are yet to pass the basic training test. According to a December 26 report by PLA Daily, Vice-Captain Zhangye of the Type 056 Corvette Ship was unable to pass the test at the end of his training. Vice-Captain Wang Yubing of another Chinese warship has also not completed his basic training.
Military service is compulsory for all youth in China. Every year around 8 lakh youths join the army for 2 years as compulsory military service. They are given training for three months. Apart from this, there is also a 16-day political training. Due to this training, the workforce of the army is reduced by 20 to 35 percent every year for 3-4 months.
Recruitment in PLA is done in large numbers but very few youths stay in the army. Experts blame the 'one child policy' for this trend. Because of the 'One Child Policy', most of households have only one child. The parents take care of this child with care and affection. These children do not have the necessary strength for the army. They have to face problems in the army, so they leave the army as soon as the time is over.
