ICC made big changes in the rules of cricket, fielding team got a shock
ICC Change Rule: ICC has made some major changes in the rules of cricket. Now under the new rules, when a stumping review is taken, only stumping will be examined. There will be no checking of catches behind the wicket.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has made some major changes in the rules of cricket. It has not been officially announced yet. However, the new playing conditions have been implemented in the new year 2024. This means that the test matches being played between India vs South Africa and Australia vs Pakistan are being played under the new rules. Under the new ICC rules to check stumping first, when DRS stumping is taken, the catch has been checked first and then the stumping. But, now under the new rules, only the stumping will be examined when the stumping review is taken. There will be no checking of catches behind the wicket.
Actually, under the earlier rule, when DRS of stumping was taken, the third umpire used to first check the catch and then the stumping. The fielding team used to take advantage of this and demand stumping and after the umpire's review, the batsmen were caught out, but now the rule has been changed. Now only that angle will be considered for stumping review, due to which the fielding team will not be able to get additional privileges. Now the fielding team will have to take DRS separately for catching.
It has been said in the new ICC rules that this change will limit the stumping review to only the investigation of stumping. Therefore, the fielding team will not get a free review for other methods of dismissal i.e. caught out without choosing a review.
Let us tell you that Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey came into the limelight several times due to the use of a stumping review to check the catch. He did this several times during the Australian team's tour of India.
