Hyundai showed new car glimpse: will compete with Tata Punch in sub-compact SUV segment

Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has today (Wednesday, April 5) announced the launch of a new SUV in the Indian market. Codenamed Ai3, the sub-compact SUV will be based on the platform of the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios.
The company has not shared any information related to the car at the moment, but the car was recently spotted on Indian roads. Hyundai will soon inform the official launch of the car. The company says that the new SUV will give the customer the experience of smart mobility. The SUV is expected to compete with the new Tata Punch.
Talking about the design of the Ai3, it will get Hyundai's signature parametric front grille, circular projector headlamps and front DRLs. The side profile features 17-inch alloy wheels, square wheel arches, plastic cladding and roof rails. At the rear, the Hyundai Ai3 is equipped with parametric taillights.
Talking about the interior of the car, it will get a new-gen steering wheel like the Ionic 5 EV. The car will get a 42-inch full-digital instrument cluster on the dashboard and an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Blue Link connectivity. Apart from this, features like auto climate control, mood lighting, ventilated driver seat and a sunroof will also be provided in the car.
The new Hyundai Ai3 could be powered by the same 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine that powers the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, i20 and Aura. This engine generates 82bhp power and 113Nm peak torque. With this, a 5-speed manual gearbox and a 5-speed AMT transmission can be given in the car. The car is expected to deliver a mileage of 20.1 kmpl with this engine.
In terms of safety, the Ai3 could get some ASAS features like lane keep assist, forward collision avoidance and blind spot detection. Talking about the price of the car, according to the reports, the price of Ai3 can start from Rs 6 lakh (ex-showroom).
