Hindu students thrashed for playing Holi in Pakistan: Panjab University attacked by radical outfit, 15 students injured
Some Hindu students playing Holi at Pakistan's Punjab University were attacked on Monday. Hindu students were thrashed by people belonging to the hardline Islamic student organization Islami Jamiat Tulba (IJT), in which 15 students were injured. However, IJT has denied the attack. Many videos related to this case are going viral on social media.
Around 30 students had gathered at the PU Law College of Panjab University to play Holi. According to the students, they had also taken permission from the college administration for this. Sindh Council General Secretary Kashif Brohi said – During the event suddenly the people of IJT came and started fighting. He got information about celebrating Holi through a Facebook post.
After the attack, the students had come to protest outside the Vice-Chancellor's office. Here many guards also assaulted him. The guards locked around 5-6 students in the van so that they could not protest. Khet Kumar, a student who was injured in the clash, said – We were protesting against the behaviour of IJT workers outside the Vice-Chancellor's office. Then the college guards came there and started beating us. We even reached the police to complain but they have not registered our FIR till now.
However, Panjab University spokesperson Khurram Shahzad said that the administration did not allow the students to celebrate Holi on the college lawn. They were asked to play Holi inside. According to the spokesperson, the matter is being investigated following the order of the Vice-Chancellor. At the same time, IJT spokesperson Ibrahim Shahid claimed that no student associated with his organization had been assaulted. That day a meeting was called in the college to read the Quran, which was why he was present on campus.
