He resurfaced in 2017 and has since claimed seven tour-level doubles titles.
Helviovaara and Patton first collaborated in April and quickly formed a partnership. After winning the ATP title, he had won 28 of 32 matches heading into the final on Saturday. He becomes only the third British man to win the Open Trophy, after Jonathan Marray in 2012 and Neal Skupski in 2023.
Helviovaara became the first man from Finland to win the Wimbledon doubles. He fell to his knees and cried when he and Patton won their second match point. Patton is the third British man to win the men’s doubles at the All England Club in the professional era, joining Jonathan Marray in 2012 and Neal Skupski last year.
