Harmanpreet is in the race for the FIH Best Player of the Year award, competing with players from these countries
FIH Year Award: Indian hockey team captain Harmanpreet Singh has been nominated for the FIH Best Player of the Year award. Apart from this, Thierry Brinkman and Joep de Mol of the Netherlands, Hannes Muller of Germany, and Jacques Wallace of England are also in the race. Voting for the award will be held till October 11. The award will be selected on the basis of performance in the tournament.
Harmanpreet Singh, captain of India's bronze medal-winning hockey team at the Paris Olympics, was nominated for the FIH Best Player of the Year on Saturday. 28-year-old drag-flicker. In a release issued by Hockey India, he said, 'It is a matter of pride to once again be in the race for the FIH Best Player of the Year award.' I was able to score so many goals in the FIH Pro League and Paris Olympics because the team created opportunities to score goals.'
Aside from Harmanpreet, the race features Thierry Brinkman and Joep de Mol of the Netherlands, Hannes Muller of Germany, and Jacques Wallace of England. All matches played in 2024 will be counted, including test matches, FIH Hockey Pro League, FIH Hockey Nations Cup, Olympic qualifiers, and the Olympics.
Harmanpreet said, 'Paris Olympics is the biggest achievement of my career so far. The team always supported me, especially in the World Cup last year when I could not score a single goal, but the team did not blame me. It was always in my mind that I have to live up to the trust of the team.'
The Indian team has also recently won the Asian Champions Trophy in China. Harmanpreet was the Player of the Tournament by scoring seven goals. Voting for the award will be held till October 11.
