GST Council meeting today: Important decision may be taken to stop tax evasion on Pan-Gutka

The meeting of the Goods and Service Tax (GST) Council will be held today i.e. on Saturday. In this meeting to be chaired by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, rationalization of GST on paan-gutka along with the formation of an Appellate Tribunal will be discussed, so that tax evasion cannot take place.
Apart from this, there is a possibility of a reduction in GST rates on pencils to sharpeners in the meeting. The Fitment Committee of GST has recommended a reduction of the GST rate on pencil sharpeners from the existing level of 18% to 12%. Apart from this, GST on online gaming and casino can also be discussed in the meeting.
Earlier in the meeting held in December, the definition of SUV vehicles was fixed in the GST Council meeting. It has been told in the meeting that SUVs will attract 28% GST and 22% cess. In this case, the effective tax rate on this will be 50%.
At the same time, GST on biofuel was reduced from 18% to 5%. GST on pulses hulls has now been reduced from 5% to nil.
In January 2023, there was a GST collection of Rs 1,55,922 crore. In January, for the 11th consecutive month, there has been a GST collection of more than Rs 1.55 lakh crore. Whereas last year in the month of December 2022, a GST collection of Rs 1,49,507 crore was recorded.
