Government plans to launch a taxi service to help drivers like Ola, Uber, and Sahkar Taxi Scheme

The government is now going to launch taxi services like Ola and Uber. The government is going to launch the Sahkar Taxi Scheme in order to ease the drivers' problems, according to a statement made in Parliament by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. According to it, the cooperative societies will be able to register two-wheelers, taxis, rickshaws, and four-wheelers.

Giving details about the scheme in the Lok Sabha, Home Minister Amit Shah said that the central government is working on the mission of prosperity with the assistance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It is not a slogan. The Ministry of Cooperation has worked for the last three and a half years to implement it at the ground level. There is going to be a massive cooperative taxi service on a big scale in the coming months. Drivers are going to benefit directly from it.

In December 2024, the government received a complaint that cab companies, especially 'Uber' and 'Ola', were charging different fares from customers using iPhones and Android phones. After this, the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) issued notices to both companies.

Rejecting the allegations, Ola said that the company has a "uniform pricing structure" for all customers. Ola had said in a statement that it does not discriminate on the basis of the operating system of the user's cellphone for the same ride. A company spokesperson said, "We have made this clear to the CCPA, and we will work closely with them to clear any misunderstanding in this regard."

An Uber spokesperson had said that the company does not set prices based on the rider's phone manufacturer. We look forward to working with the CCPA to clear any misunderstandings. While Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said the CCPA has issued notices to cab aggregators over "differential pricing" for booking rides, he will also ask the CCPA to look into alleged similar practices used by other sectors, including food delivery and online ticket-booking apps.
