Government of India shall export 2000 tonnes of non-basmati rice to these nations.

The Government of India has banned the export of non-basmati white rice with effect from July 20, 2023. However, exports are allowed based on permission given by the government to some countries to meet the request and the requirements of food safety.

The notification has been issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade here today. According to the notification, the government has allowed 2,000 tonnes of non-basmati white rice for export to two African nations: Malawi and Zimbabwe. The government has permitted export through National Cooperative Exports Limited.

It may be informed that Malawi is a landlocked country in south-eastern Africa. At the same time, Zimbabwe is a South African nation. As per the notification, each country has been permitted to export 1,000 tonnes of non-basmati rice.

DGFT said that the export of non-basmati white rice to Malawi and Zimbabwe by NCEL has been notified. The country had earlier allowed rice exports to countries like Nepal, Cameroon, Cote d'Ivoire, Guinea, Malaysia, Philippines, and Seychelles.

NCEL is a multi-state cooperative society. It has been promoted jointly by some of the leading cooperatives in the country, namely Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), popularly known as AMUL; Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative Limited (IFFCO); Krishak Bharati Cooperative Limited, KRIBHCO; and National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Limited, NAFED.
