Public sector Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) will open retail shops to sell energy efficiency i.e. power consumption products directly to consumers. For this, a franchise will be started under the name Energy Daksh Dukan.

An official said that consumers will be able to buy products like LED lights, air conditioners (ACs), and fans from these shops. Currently, EESL distributes products to consumers through a tie-up with power distribution companies. Apart from this, buyers can also shop online from its web portal.

The official said that first of all, these shops will be opened in Jharkhand, Maharashtra, and Telangana under the franchise model. Applications for the shops will be invited from August through the EESL website. The official said that this model not only supports sustainability and environmental goals but also promotes economic growth by creating business opportunities in the green sector.

This is also expected to create employment opportunities. Moreover, this will be easy on the consumers. They will easily be served with low-power-consuming appliances.

The franchise model of EESL has the target of creating a pan-India network of committed retail outlets. Any individual or institution can open a franchise shop. Be it a proprietorship or partnership firm/private limited company, limited company, NGO, self-help group, or any other legal entity.

Franchise shops will undertake all transactions through EESL's online software, ensuring efficient stock management and billing. Incorporated in the year 2009, EESL is a company promoted by the Ministry of Power. EESL is a joint venture between four public sector companies: NTPC Limited, Power Finance Corporation, REC Limited, and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd.
