Many things are coming to the fore regarding the satellite-based toll system in the country. Due to this, there is also doubt in the minds of the people. It is being reported in many media reports that toll collection will start with the new system from May 1, 2025. Know what information has been given by the central government on this.

The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, along with NHAI, has provided the information that no decision has yet been made to implement the satellite toll facility from May 1, 2025. Because of this, it has become certain that the new toll facility will not be initiated from May 1, 2025.

In addition to this, the government has also announced that the ANPR-FASTag-based barrier-free tolling facility will be introduced at specific toll plazas to facilitate delay-free and trouble-free passage of vehicles through toll plazas, along with minimizing the time of travel.

According to the information given by the government, automatic number plate recognition technology will be provided in the new tolling system. This will identify vehicles by reading their number plates. After this, the Fastag system will be charged without the need to stop at the toll plaza based on their identification through high-capacity ANPR cameras and Fastag readers, along with the use of RFID.

According to the information, if a vehicle does not follow these rules properly, e-notices will be sent to the violators. If they are not paid, Fastag can also be suspended. Along with this, vehicle-related penalties can also be imposed.

NHAI has invited bids for the ANPR Fastag-based barrierless toll system. Which will be installed at selected toll plazas. After which, its performance and efficiency will be checked, and then a decision will be taken on implementing it across the country.
