Google launches AI-powered FireSat satellite, will help control forest fires

Google has unveiled the AI-powered satellite FireSat to deal with forest fires. The satellite will issue timely warnings so that the fire is not permitted to spread. It was placed in space a few days ago on the launch vehicle of Elon Musk's company SpaceX. Google's CEO Sundar Pichai has also thanked Elon Musk's SpaceX for supporting this major initiative.

The FireSat AI satellites aim to detect potential wildfires as early as possible in space and issue timely warnings. Google has built this FireSat constellation in collaboration with Earth-Fire Alliance, Gordon & Betty Moore Foundation, and Muon Space.

FireSat's role is to detect fire in forests and inform the relevant authorities at an interval of 20 minutes. Google.org is supporting this initiative. The company has been allocated funding of $ 13 million (Rs 108 crore) to introduce the FireSat satellite constellation.

Google is using its advanced AI system in new detection technology in this satellite. For this, location imagery of old incidents is analyzed in it. Along with this, the help of weather conditions is also taken so that the possible pattern of fire in an area can be detected.

Earlier Google was considering using high-altitude drones for this. But, when SpaceX gave its support to this project, then sending satellites became affordable for it. With this, it decided to send satellites for wildfire detection.

This satellite can be helpful in preventing forest fires from spreading. Along with this, it can also play a big role in preventing major losses caused by forest fires in the future. A few months ago, a lot of damage was caused by the fire in California, USA.
