Google is working on a photo editing feature feature for Gemini

Gemini: By the way, it can be seen in the video demo that this feature is not fully working yet. In many instances, the entire image changes despite the feature being instructed to change only a part. But it is possible that by the time this feature is rolled out to users, these problems will be fixed.

Google has been working on enhancing the image generation capabilities of its Gemini chatbot. A recent report says that the company is planning to add an inline image editing feature to the artificial intelligence (AI) bot. This feature was spotted in the most recent Google app beta and appears to be ready for smartphones, however, it is unclear if it will be available for the web client as well. What makes this unique is that an inline editing feature is already available through the Microsoft Designer platform through Copilot.

According to an Android Authority report, the new feature was spotted in version 15.40.31.29 of Google's Android beta app. The feature revealed itself during the APK teardown of the app, but it is not something those who have signed up for Google's beta program can test right now since this is not a visible feature at the moment.

Editing images through Gemini up until now was a bit inconvenient. If a user did not like something in any particular part of an image, he needed to generate another image by giving a follow-up prompt with new details. But in this new image, the good parts of the old image could be removed. There was no way to replace only the bad parts while keeping the good parts intact.

This new update will solve this problem. The company has released a demo video through which it can be said that this feature is based on two interactions of the user. Once the image has been generated, the user can select an area of it and add a follow-up prompt. This will cause Gemini to alter just that portion of the image, leaving the rest of the image intact.

The video demo makes clear that this feature is still in its early stages of development. Frequently, even though the feature is told to modify only a portion of the image, the entire image changes. However, these problems might be resolved by the time this feature is made available to users.
