A new 'Insert' button is now rolling out to Gemini Assistant in the Gmail Android app, the artificial intelligence (AI) feature that has been available for the web variant of Gmail for a year without being in an Android app until lately. According to the report, this facility is now made available to all types of Android devices. This follows an update to add Google Calendar support to Gemini Assistant back in November 2024. Of course, it goes without saying that this will require a Gemini Advanced subscription for the feature to be utilized.

Up until now, Gemini-powered Gmail's Android app enabled the AI-powered chatbot to reply to emails, but it was up to the user to actually insert the response from Gemini's suggestions into the email draft. Users were either copying and pasting the text from the Gemini interface into the draft email or even typing the response themselves. Both ways, it was kind of a nuisance, which actually accounted for that very low adoption rate of reply suggestions.

This problem was not there in the web version of Gmail, where users have been getting the facility of the 'Insert' button since last year, but now, according to Android Authority's report, the 'Insert' button is finally being added to the Gmail Android app as well. This update has been included in the Android version 2025.01.05.715468168 of Gmail.
