‘God has his own plan’, says Pant on winning T20 World Cup from near-fatal accident

Many were unsure how wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant would fare in his return to international cricket in the 2024 Men's T20 World Cup in the United States and West Indies.

Pant returned to professional cricket with the Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2024, scoring 446 runs in 13 games and delivering his greatest performance behind the stumps. Pant helped India win the World Cup for the second time in Barbados by scoring 171 runs in eight innings at an average of 24.42 and a strike rate of 127.61 from his new number three position in the team.

He also impressed with his wicketkeeping skills, taking 13 catches and making a stumping to set a record for most catches by a keeper in any edition of the men's T20 World Cup. Going through a period of extreme pain and uncertainty about the future, Pant now finds himself as a T20 World Cup champion.

Before leaving Barbados for New Delhi with the Indian team, Pant took to social media to reflect on the remarkable 18-month period when he went from crutches to doing all the simple things like climbing stairs, sliding, and running.

"Blessed, humbled, and grateful. God has his plan," wrote Pant. In another post, Pant posed with his winning medal and captioned, “This medal impacts you differently.”

From a life-threatening accident to becoming a T20 World Cup winner, it has been an incredible journey for Pant, reinforcing his belief in the power of people to turn life around from any situation to glory through hard work, determination, and perseverance.
