Billions of people rely on chat and call apps like WhatsApp and Telegram to send messages and video calls every day. Although these apps have become an everyday part of our lives, they can also leak our location to others without us knowing.
While companies claim such apps to be safe and private, someone might be tracking your IP address to do unknown things. In today's article, we are going to tell you some ways with the help of which you can hide your IP address.
Hide IP address in social media apps like this:
Telegram: To hide your IP address on Telegram, you have to follow some simple steps. For this, first of all, you have to go to Settings of your app and click on Privacy and Security. Now you have to click on Never in the PEER-TO-PEER section for calls.
WhatsApp: In WhatsApp, you do not get any option to activate a P2P connection. WhatsApp itself decides when the call will be P2P and when it will be a relay call. However, WhatsApp is working on a feature to protect your IP address in calls. Once this feature is enabled, calls will be relayed through WhatsApp servers. At the moment, this feature is in beta, but it should be available to everyone soon.
Signal: Signal does not have an option to turn off P2P connections. In the app, you will see only the option of 'Always relay calls'. This will, again, hide your IP at the cost of reducing call quality by a slight margin. To turn it on, go to Settings > Privacy > Advanced > turn on the 'Always Relay Calls' option.
Messenger: Like WhatsApp, Meta also doesn't have an option to block P2P calls on Facebook Messenger. And we don't know if Meta Messenger is working on any feature to hide IP addresses on the app or not.
