Fraud calls are coming in the name of TRAI, telecom regulators warned people
Nowadays scammers are making fraudulent calls to customers in the name of TRAI, for which telecom regulators have warned people. These scammers threaten to disconnect your mobile connection and ask for your personal information. In such a situation, if you fall into their trap, then you may have to face loss.
Fraudsters are finding innovative ways to scam people. The most recent example concerns a case in connection with people who called in the name of the TRAI and threatened to cancel your number. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India issued a warning on Wednesday to people not to fall for calls being made by fraudsters in its name.
In this, users are threatened to get their mobile number disconnected and are asked to give some personal information. Let us know in detail about it.
The TRAI has clarified that it does not send out communication to customers regarding the disconnection of mobile numbers through any other medium but their registered mobile number, nor has it authorized a third-party agency to do so.
Therefore, any form of communication (calls, messages, or notices) claiming to be from TRAI and threatening to disconnect a mobile number should be treated as a potential fraud attempt and should not be considered, TRAI said in a release.
Disconnection of any mobile number is done if it is against billing, KYC, or misuse by the concerned TSP. TRAI strongly advised everyone to stay alert and not be panicked or fall into the trap set by such fraudulent activities.
Therefore, it advised the same to reconfirm such calls by calling the customer care center or the authorized call centers of the concerned TSP. The regulator said it had paid attention to the fact that an enormous amount of such pre-recorded calls were made to citizens, claiming to be from TRAI, where users were only warned that their number would be closed inextricably and on a short-term basis, and asked for private email information.
TRAI never sends any communication to customers using messages for disconnection of any mobile numbers. TRAI has not authorized any third-party agency to do so. "Casting off the misuse of telecom resources and cybercrime-related financial frauds, now any suspected fraudulent communication can be reported by the citizens through the Chakshu facility on DoT's Sanchar Sathi platform".
